October 11, 2013Woodruff Road has reclaimed the top spot among Greenville’s commercial corridors in gross sales, recording more than $700 million in 2012 to climb ahead of Haywood Road, a report presented at a Greenville City Council workshop shows.
After leading in 2011 with gross sales of about $625 million, Haywood Road slid below $600 million in 2012, the annual update presented Monday shows.
Laurens Road South/Motor Mile held the No. 3 spot at just below $550 million, followed by Fairforest Way/Mauldin Road at just under $500 million and Pleasantburg Drive at just under $450 million. In 2001 — the first year included in the report — Laurens Road South/Motor Mile was the No. 1 total gross sales area at about $775 million.
The report shows all commercial areas in the city combined in 2012 generated an estimated $28.1 million in property tax and hospitality tax revenue. That includes $22.4 million in property tax revenue, up from $19.1 million in 2010. The $5.7 million in hospitality tax revenue in 2012 increased from $4.8 million in 2010.
Downtown generated the most property tax and hospitality tax, with the report showing a total of $16 million in 2012 — $14.1 million in property tax and $1.9 million in hospitality tax — up from a total of $13.9 million in 2010. The Woodruff Road commercial area generated a total of $3.4 million in property tax and hospitality tax revenue in 2012, compared with $2.3 million in 2010, followed by Haywood Road at $2.9 million.
