September 5, 2012The owners of The Point shopping center got creative in 2009 when Circuit City closed and left behind a large, empty shell on Woodruff Road in Greenville.
The shopping center fell from 100% to 60% occupancy. Ohio-based DDR Corp., an owner and manager of 450 retail properties nationwide, was tasked with filling the roughly 40,000-square-foot building.
Several opportunities arose to secure new tenants, including Michael’s, but DDR and co-owner SAU decided to hold off and continue recruiting.
“We had to wait a little longer to get two retailers that would pay more per square foot rather than just rush for one, but the rent perspective was very attractive,” said Joseph Tichar, DDR Corp.’s vice president and chief of staff.
