August 24, 2012ANDERSON — Anderson County’s planning commission rejected a request Tuesday to rezone 26 acres near the East-West Connector to allow an assisted-living center there.
M&S Management LLC sought to have property near the intersection of Concord Road and the connector reclassified from residential land to commercial acreage to allow for the building.
But it took the planning commission only 16 minutes to hear arguments for and against the proposal and to unanimously vote against it.
Anderson County planning director Bill West said the rezoning request is the first the advisers have been asked to consider since elected officials moved in 2011 to create a special “overlay district” to protect residential land near the connector.
