“A Ride to Remember” benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association
July 16, 2018At KDS Caine, we’re committed to building strong community partnerships, and our recent work with Meals on Wheels is the perfect example of what can come from meaningful relationships with our local organizations.
Our Senior Advisor, Larry Webb, served on the board of Meals on Wheels from 2006 to 2012, and acted as the Chairman of the board for two years during that time. He’s since regularly volunteered with the non-profit, delivering hot meals to those in need across our community. For 16 consecutive years, KDS Commercial Properties, now KDS Caine, spearheaded an annual cycling fundraiser “Wheels for Meals” raising over $2 million and providing around 350,000 meals for Meals on Wheels recipients.
As their demand grew year after year, Meals on Wheels began outgrowing their current space and wanted to plan for their next 20 years and beyond of serving the Upstate.
They needed a new facility to expand their kitchen, administrative offices for staff and volunteers, and space to carry out their vision for a flexible community center to host events and engage with residents, business leaders, volunteers, and other ministries they support.
Larry stepped in to help and conducted a site search for the right location, analyzing over 10 properties and sites with the assistance of Mark Ratchford, President and Advisor with KDS Caine.
After evaluating multiple sites over the course of a year, it became clear that developing their own space would be the most feasible way to reach their long-term goals to achieve the space they envisioned. They selected the old Economy Inn site on Augusta Road, and the Board of Directors passed a vote to acquire it.
Managed by Webb Development under the guidance of KDS Caine with design support from McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture, the new space will become a central hub for Meals on Wheels and fit into Greenville County and City’s revitalization efforts in the area. Meals on Wheels continues their capital campaign to raise funds for the project and is excited to start construction soon.
As longtime friends and partners with Meals on Wheels, we’re honored to play a part in their future growth, and proud to support their vision in taking care of our neighbors in the Upstate.
